diagnosis - drs. refuse to diagnose09/06/2010 10:09:07
To everyone who feels they may have lupus but drs. are reluctant to diagnose you - please do not give up, listen to your body and the wisdom of your intuition. You need to go to a rheumatologist, if you need a referral from your primary, insist on it, fight for yourself and get to a rheumatologist, you need to get on meds to keep you from getting worse.I am so lucky. I was diagnosed with lupus and sjogrens syndrome last year at age 57. I had been having weird symptoms for over a year: very inflamed rash, swollen salivary gland, eye problems, sun sensitivity, and hair loss (not my head but my body), numbness in my hands. I went to different drs. who treated the symptoms, I kept thinking to myself that all these symptoms were related, finally I got to a rheumatologist who diagnosed me with blood work. I have been on Plaquenil 400 mg since May 09 and I am doing great, it took about 6 months for symptoms to subside. I and my dr. feel this will keep me from ever developing more serious symptoms.Don't give up ladies, push your dr for a referral, push to get on an anti-inflammatory, trust the wisdom of your body.
