Something to consider

08/01/2011 02:08:45

It has been awhile since I posted anything about dealing with Lupus but I have something I want everyone to consider. I know that while we all share common symptoms (and frustrations) we are all different and what works for one may not do much good for another. With that in mind I will share that changing my diet has seemed to help my body (and my emotional state) deal with the disease.

Specifically I have removed as much gluten and sugar from my diet as I can. There is a lot to support that a sensitivity to gluten has an effect on auto immune diseases by aggravating the body and inflaming it. It isn't difficult to get gluten and sugar free but it does take work. I buy gluten free products and use Stevia as my sweetener. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

OK what I have noticed is that my body has more stamina and more resilience when I do have a flare up. I can still get tired but I don't hit that wall where your body goes down for the count and you hurt so much you think you will break into pieces. Of course as I feel better I do more which in turn could be in part causing my tiredness.

I believe it is worth trying for 90 days to see if you also notice a difference. Like many of you I don't get much help from doctors so I have been working with a naturepathic doctor to try alternatives. It doesn't take a huge leap to know that diet effects everyone and that goes double with those of us with Lupus.

So consider it, research if you want and give it a try.

best wishes to all, Judith
