Current Topic: Men have Lupus too
Yes its true - Men have lupus too. We all need help with this disease. I was diagnosed last spring/summer after I got a sunburn that never went away. I originally thought it was sun poisoning, but even that would have cleared up after time. I later found outthat I was having a flare that would last for months. I was very depressed and thought that Lupus would be the rain cloud that followed me everywhere. Things were bad, but they did get better. Now it is almost summer again and I'm dodging the sun as much as possible, but I am feeling like a flare could be pressing soon. Therefore I have been trying to stay stress free and get as much sleep as possible. But back to my original point, this is a disease affecting men and women and as a man, I think this organization should do a better job spreading its awareness among both sexes.
Matthew- I don't know how I missed your post this week. I agree that the ad council needs to be more aware that they need to get more info out about men with lupus. I originally was diagnosed with discoid lupus- more just the rashes and spotty hair loss- but after 5yrs it seems to be crossing into systemic-not fun.I am still trying to get a handle on it and find info on treatments. My doctors are not very informed which is even worse. Hang in there- don't let it get the best of you.

I was diagnosed with Lupus 12 years ago but I had the symptoms for the past 25 years or more. I don't feel I completely fill the "qualifications" but for lack of a better word for it I go along with the diagnosis.
